Discove lets anyone create their own feeds using simple but powerful rules, and then share these social feeds with anyone. This unlocks all sorts of community-created reputation-based feeds and algorithms that can be used to share and curate results of all types: articles, reviews, music, restaurants, information, etc. Secondly, Discove community plugins change how feeds look and make them interactive with community-created apps such as events signup, buying NFTs, or anything a creator can think of.
Discove is a bet that the next big social app will be based on a web3 social protocol, and the best apps will win by having the best content, curated algorithmically by the community.
Social feeds are a massive problem.
The average daily social media usage of internet users worldwide is 147 minutes per day (source), and social media use is linked to a decline in mental health (source)
Feeds are run by companies with ad-driven business models, with an incentive to addict users with content that is often clickbait, low quality or not aligned with the user’s goals. Feeds have also been used to create filter bubbles, manipulate election results and censor people.
I grew up in a generation where we kept in touch with people we met through Facebook. But Facebook’s relentless optimization on maximizing attention and ads has led many in my personal network to decide to give up on social apps altogether, and that’s a real shame.
We deserve better.
